I am committed to spread unbiased and honest finacial advise.
Hi, I’m Carlo – a (best-selling) author, speaker, and a personal finance coach.
Welcome to Common Cents.
Most likely, you and I are on the same boat, sailing the same ocean called “life”.
We all dream of a better (if not the best) life for us, our family, and our loved ones.
Just like you, I’m learning the ropes of business and entrepreneurship for me to achieve that kind of life. A life of financial freedom.
Just like you, I’m tired of the typical 9to5 routine.
“If you’re still building your business, and you’re not yet financially free, how can you help me?”
Yes, I’m not good (yet) with business. Like I said, you and I are on the same boat. But I am very, very good at one thing.
The one thing I’ve been dealing with since I was 10 years old (circa 1994), I almost eat it for breakfast.
The one thing I bought for myself (for the first time) at age 19. Do the math.
It’s no other than INSURANCE.
“Wait, what?! Are you telling me you’re a financial advisor? Yet you claim you spread unbiased financial advise?
How is that possible?! How are you any different from the other financial advisors?”
Another good question. Let’s break it down.
(This is actually my most feared question. Not because I don’t know the answer. I fear this question because of how I will answer this).
Yes, I am a financial advisor (AKA insurance agent). And this is how I’m different from the others or atleast most of them):
First, I am not the type of advisor na ang tanging alam lang na investment ay VUL (insurance + investment).
I don’t sell a VUL as an investment, nor a protection + retirement plan, nor an insurance with investment, etc.
I sell VULs as an insurance. Period.
I’ve been investing in the stock market since 2008, and I never looked back. So if investment is your goal, I won’t discourage you from investing in the stock market or mutual funds just to push a VUL sale on you.
Second, (as I said earlier) I’ve been reading insurance proposals since I was 10 years old. I bought my first insurance when I was 19, and bought seven (7) insurance policies to date. I’ll buy more as needed. I became an insurance agent only when I was 33.
I’ve been a loooong time insurance costumer before I even became an advisor. That means…
I have the best chance of understanding your true needs. Because once upon a time, those were my needs too.
For the longest time, I was trained to avail the most cost-efficient (not necessarily the cheapest) insurance plans that can serve my needs. Not the ones that give huge commissions that most advisors were trained to do.
I’m not a son of an RFP (or any finance expert), nor a 2nd or 3rd generation advisor in the family. But the advise I give have stood the test of time, and have been applied by me and my family (they all work too!). I don’t give advise just because I learned a theory or two from a classroom training.
I’m not just an advisor. I am a finance coach.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s what people have to say about my services (experts or otherwise):
I want this to be your online home of unbiased and honest financial advise.
I believe this is the most important – I have a knack for simplifying complicated financial stuff.
A talent I never thought I had. Check this out:
Did you catch that?
Dati nalilito pero ngayon malinaw na.
So simple, it will make you think hard.
Very clear explanation.
Simple but useful.
Some fun (read: weird) facts about me…
- I’m a sweet guy, but I hate sweets.
- I love coffee as if it’s water. Pure black. No sugar. No creamer.
- I film myself on video, because I can never get anything done if I write. (Quite an irony for a published author).
- Beer over hard drinks.
- Hard copy over ebooks.
- I never loved the limelight
- I’m shy.
This is me. And I’m sticking with it.
