I know why you’re here.
I know you’re tired of boring, guilt-trip financial advise.
I know you hate advise that’s biased to financial products sold by “experts”.
And don’t get me started with haifalutin (had to google that), jargon-ey financial terms.
I know I am.
Hi, I’m Carlo Mercado.
I’m a wealth coach, (best-selling) author, speaker, and an entrepreneur. My mission is to help my fellow Filipinos achieve financial security by giving honest and unbiased financial advise.
You deserve that.
I believe you don’t have to have a guilt-filled relationship with money (like sacrificing your favorite Starbucks frappe for delayed gratification. Ain’t that so mainstream? Trust me – I’d rather have the frappe!)
I believe money does not have to be boring (after all, it can buy stuff that give us fun).
I believe money is so idiot-simple, it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Welcome to Common Cents!
Most likely, you and I are on the same boat, sailing the same ocean called “life”.
We all dream of a better (if not the best) life for us, our family, and our loved ones.
Just like you, I’m learning the ropes of business and entrepreneurship for me to achieve that kind of life. A life of financial freedom.
Just like you, I’m tired of the typical 9to5 routine.
“If you’re still building your business, and you’re not yet financially free, how can you help me?”
Yes, I’m not good (yet) with business. Like I said, you and I are on the same boat. But I am very, very good at one thing.
The one thing I’ve been dealing with since I was 10 years old (circa 1994.), I almost eat it for breakfast.
The one thing I bought for myself (for the first time) at age 19 (do the math).
It’s no other than INSURANCE.
Wait, what?! Are you telling me you’re a financial advisor? Yet you claim you give unbiased financial advise? How is that possible?!
How am I different from the other financial advisors?
Another good question. Let’s break it down.
(This is actually my most feared question. Not because I don’t know the answer, but because of how I will answer this).
Yes, I am a financial advisor (call it insurance agent as you please. Doesn’t really matter). And this is how I’m different from the others, or atleast most of them:
First, I am not the type of advisor na ang tanging alam lang na investment ay VUL (insurance + investment).
I don’t sell a VUL as an investment, nor a protection + retirement plan, nor an insurance with investment, etc.
I sell VULs as an insurance. Period. And that does not stop me from selling Term Insurance.
(If this sounds alien to you, I’d recommend you to stick around)
I’ve been investing in the stock market since 2008, and I never looked back. So if investment is your goal, I won’t discourage you from investing in the stock market or mutual funds just to push a VUL sale on you.
Second, (as I said earlier) I’ve been reading insurance proposals since I was 10 years old. I bought my first insurance when I was 19, and bought seven (7) insurance policies to date. I’ll buy more as needed.
Then I became an insurance agent only when I was 33.
I’ve been a loooong time insurance costumer wayyyy before I even became an advisor. That means…
I have the best chance of understanding your true needs. Because once upon a time, those were my needs too.
And yes. Once upon a time, I, too have been duped by a sales-driven agent who does not care about my needs, much less my goals. He only cared about whether I’d pull my wallet or not.
For decades, I was trained to avail the most cost-efficient (not necessarily the cheapest) insurance plans that can serve my needs. Not the ones that give huge commissions that most advisors were trained to do.
I’m not a son of an RFP (or any finance expert), nor a 2nd or 3rd generation advisor in the family. But the advise I give have stood the test of time, and have been applied by me and my family (they all work too!). I don’t give advise just because I learned a theory or two from a classroom training.
I’m not just an advisor. I am a wealth coach.
Let’s admit it.
There are a lot of other money problems out there aside from insurance (or the lack of it). And most of the time (if not all the time), they’re the most urgent ones.
Are you an OFW that’s struggling with your budget because of too much “padala”?
Did you promise yourself that you’ll only work away from your family for 10years, but you ended up working 20 more years?
Are you tired of getting buried in debt eventhough you’re earning a lot?
Do your folks back home treat you like an “ATM”?
Do you have a family to feed while *still* supporting your parents and other relatives?
Or maybe you have the desire to save and invest for your future, but don’t know where and how to start.
Truth is, OFW or not, we all have the same dreams and goals (we want to give the best life for ourselves and our loved ones). We practially have similar problems (debt, not enough income, supporting our parents and kids at the same time, etc.), just packaged differently.
Your Common Cents wealth coach have you covered.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s what people have to say about my services:
I want this to be your online home of unbiased and honest financial advise.
I believe this is the most important – I have a knack for simplifying complicated financial stuff.
A talent I never thought I had. Check this out:
Did you catch that?
Dati nalilito pero ngayon malinaw na.
So simple, it will make you think hard.
Very clear explanation.
Simple but useful.
And last… Believe it or not, I consider myself as “THE JOKER” of the financial industry.
Think Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.”
No. I didn’t dye my hair and dressed like a freak clown.
Like The Joker, I don’t care about rules and system. I only care about what’s right and what works.
Like The Joker, I don’t care about awards and recognition.
But unlike The Joker, I need money. The Joker doesn’t (remember the scene when he burned all his money?) To be fair with me, The Joker is alone. I’m not. The Joker has nothing to lose. I do.
I need money to:
- Give the best life for my family
- Sustain my mission (even charities need a lot of moolah).
Not for wealth, power or influence. And definitely not for fame.
As The Joker would say…
All you (other criminals) care about is money. This city needs a better class of criminals. And I’m going to give it to them.”
To which I say…
This country needs a better class of wealth coaches. And I’m gonna give it to them.
Some fun (read: weird) facts about me…
- I’m a sweet guy, but I hate sweets.
- I love coffee as if it’s water. Pure black. No sugar. No creamer.
- I film myself on video, because I can never get anything done if I write. (Quite an irony for a published author). You can get a copy of my best-selling book here.
- Beer over hard drinks.
- Hard copy over ebooks.
- I never loved the limelight. Pero hindi ko tatanggihan yan.
- I’m shy.
This is me. And I’m sticking with it.
